DIY: Bridal Shower Centerpiece

Today was my cousin's bridal shower. As a bridesmaid I had the 'honor' of helping out with the Bridal Shower. I volunteered to make the centerpieces, after remembering that a friend of mine had made some for her sister's shower.

Here was my inspiration, that I came across on google images.

They are called Towel Centerpieces. After watching a few YouTube videos, I have to admit I became nervous. I was worried that I had agreed to do the impossible. I am by NO means a 'crafty' person, so I must have had way too many mimosas at the brunch where I volunteered to make them.

Here was my first trial, based on using towels I had at home and some beads from last years St. Patty's day:

Needless to say, it wasn't that pretty. But, it was nothing that a trip to Bed Bath & Beyond and Michael's couldn't fix. .

Each centerpiece had to have 3 different size towels: a bath towel, a hand towel & a wash cloth. Each towel was rolled and pins and tape were used to hold it together. They were then stacked on top of one another. The color scheme for my cousin's shower was pink & chocolate brown. I used brown/pink ribbon and hot pink roses to decorate.

Check out the final products!

Aren't they nice? They were a HIT. We played a game and one person from each table won it as a prize =)

The Wedding Date!

233 days from now I will be married.

Some couples choose their wedding date to be on a date that is sentimental to them. Mine and Fi's dating anniversary is 11/22, so I really wanted to have our wedding on the 22nd of any month. But, I also really wanted to set a wedding date right away because I was VERY anxious about getting started on wedding planning.

In our case, we are paying for our wedding completely on our own. We always knew it would be this way and had no problem with it. It just meant that we would have to have at least a 10 month engagement, long enough for both of us to save up our nickels and dimes. Soon after we got engaged (like that Saturday) I started questioning the Fi on when he wanted to get married. He started throwing dates in the year 2012 and after I nearly fell onto the floor due to shock, he agreed that we would set a date for 2011. Ultimately, we decided that the only way we could pick our date is if we sat down with a calculator, a calendar and our bank statements. We needed to figure out how much time we would need to save enough money to have our wedding. We decided that we would feel most comfortable having all our money saved up and ready to spend by March-April of next year, so we counted up our paychecks and viola! Came up with the date: 6.25.11

Afterwards, we realized that we had totally overlooked something pretty major. June is a VERY popular month for weddings and popular=more expensive. If we would've pushed out our wedding by just 2 months the overall cost would've dropped close to 10%. Jeeze! Anyway, you live and learn (not that either of us are planning on having another wedding!).

Intro

My boyfriend (now Fiance, or "Fi") of almost 9 years finally popped the question on May 5th of this year. Since then I've become obsessed with EVERYTHING wedding related. Ok maybe the word obsessed is kind of strong, I became extremely GIDDY over everything wedding related, so much to the point that I had to start this blog to document the wedding planning. Something tells me I will be missing all of this after our wedding has come and gone, next year, on June 25th.
