The Wedding Date!

233 days from now I will be married.

Some couples choose their wedding date to be on a date that is sentimental to them. Mine and Fi's dating anniversary is 11/22, so I really wanted to have our wedding on the 22nd of any month. But, I also really wanted to set a wedding date right away because I was VERY anxious about getting started on wedding planning.

In our case, we are paying for our wedding completely on our own. We always knew it would be this way and had no problem with it. It just meant that we would have to have at least a 10 month engagement, long enough for both of us to save up our nickels and dimes. Soon after we got engaged (like that Saturday) I started questioning the Fi on when he wanted to get married. He started throwing dates in the year 2012 and after I nearly fell onto the floor due to shock, he agreed that we would set a date for 2011. Ultimately, we decided that the only way we could pick our date is if we sat down with a calculator, a calendar and our bank statements. We needed to figure out how much time we would need to save enough money to have our wedding. We decided that we would feel most comfortable having all our money saved up and ready to spend by March-April of next year, so we counted up our paychecks and viola! Came up with the date: 6.25.11

Afterwards, we realized that we had totally overlooked something pretty major. June is a VERY popular month for weddings and popular=more expensive. If we would've pushed out our wedding by just 2 months the overall cost would've dropped close to 10%. Jeeze! Anyway, you live and learn (not that either of us are planning on having another wedding!).

  1. We accidentally picked our dating anniversary day! We had our first date on April 12 and we're getting married June 12. We actually didnt have much of a problem with June because lots of people in Texas prefer fall weddings since its cooler.

  2. That's pretty cool! I live in NY so a lot of people want to have their weddings in the Summer months. Some of our snow storms, in recent years, have been pretty unforgettable, so Winter weddings are less popular.

  3. I was surprised - traditional June is less popular in our area. September/October are the "hot" months now. We chose June because it didn't have any significance attached to it. That and the climbing hydrangeas (that will be our backdrop) will be in bloom.
